Job Summary:
The Noyo Food Forest Garden Manager is a year-round, part-time position requiring dedication to our local food system and passionate determination to produce organic fruits and vegetables for our Farm-to-School program and other outlets. The Garden Manager receives direction from and collaborates with the Noyo Food Forest Board of Directors. This role also coordinates and collaborates with the Noyo Food Forest Director of Operations, Noyo Food Forest Garden Educator, FBHS garden educators, and volunteer coordinators in the execution of grant parameters and infrastructure needs.
The Garden Manager is responsible for cultivating the garden in a mindful, sustainable, and organic way using best regenerative farming approaches and practices. We are a Learning Garden first and, as such, our gardening practices must reflect these values.
This is an in the garden position, 20-30 hours/week. Starting hourly rate: $25.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Plan and execute a year-round production garden on the one-acre Learning Garden located at Fort Bragg High School.
With the production goal of growing organic fruits and vegetables for our Farm-to-School program and provide Fort
Bragg Cafeteria Service on a regular basis with significant quantities of healthy, organic, sustainably produced food.
Responsible for communicating regularly with FBHS Cafeteria Service to ensure Noyo Food Forest is growing food
that will be served to the students.
The Garden Manager must be able to work closely with the Garden Educator to impart knowledge & skills, collaborate
on curriculum development as needed and assist with education objectives as required.
Present regular progress and plan updates to the Board of Directors and communicate on a regular basis with the Office
Administrator about all garden matters and needs.
Responsible for the care, supervision, and upkeep of all areas of the Noyo Food Forest Learning Garden.
Interaction with the public, volunteers, and students is frequent.
Co-manage Direct Sales when availability allows.
Manage year-round nursery.
Maintain documentation of garden map, planting schedule, harvesting log, seed starts, harvested produce, crop
rotations, school delivery quantities etc.
Plan, source, and purchase all needed garden items.
Performing other related duties as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum requirements include: a high school diploma, CA driver’s license, TB Test, background check and fluency in
English both spoken and written.
This position reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Hours are 20-30 hours per week.
Starting hourly rate of $25. Subject to employee performance rate can/will increase over time.
Location: 300 A Dana Street (on the north side of FBHS). Must be able to work in The Learning Garden independently
and in collaboration with a team.
