Job Summary
The Medical/Surgical Patient Care Technician,under the direction of a licensed nurse, is responsible to provide basic patient care to each patient admitted to the Medical/Surgical Unit of The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. The patient population will include patients from infancy to geriatric who present with either medical or pre/post surgical problems/needs. The Patient Care Technician will assist with related duties as assigned. Exhibits the F.I.R.S.T. values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service, and Trust).
Working Conditions, Hazards and Physical Effort
Works in a well lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area. Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights, and sounds. Long periods of standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning of patients are required. Risks of physical strain, stress, and assault. Risks of exposure to infectious diseases/conditions. Risks of injury related to use of potentially dangerous equipment. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. independently.
Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Certification and/or eligible Nursing Assistant course and exam given by Kentucky Tech or another state which is accepted by the Kentucky Nurse Aide Registry are required. Must maintain 12 CEU's on an annual basis.
Experience: One-year experience preferred.
Equipment Used/Special Skills Required: (See skills check list.) Must have computer skills.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
Registration - KY Nurse Aide Registry; Basic Life Support Certification (successful completion by date of employment and renewed every two years).
