Position Overview

We are a growing tax firm seeking a part-time, primarily remote Tax Operations & Client Support Specialist with prior experience working in a tax or accounting firm. This role requires someone who is highly disciplined, self-directed, and comfortable working independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.

This position supports tax preparation, tax resolution, and bookkeeping operations but does not require preparing tax returns.

Work Structure

Remote: Majority of work is remote

Occasional in-person or video check-ins as needed

Must have a reliable home workspace and internet connection

Hours & Pay

Part-time: 20 hours per week

Pay: $18–$25 per hour, based on experience

Potential for additional hours during tax season

Key Responsibilities

Tax & Case Management Support

Communicate with clients to request and follow up on documents

Prepare and organize IRS and state forms (e.g., 2848, 8821, installment agreements, compliance documents)

Call the IRS and state tax agencies on behalf of clients and document outcomes

Track case progress and deadlines independently

Maintain accurate, organized client records

Bookkeeping Support

Categorize transactions and reconcile accounts in QuickBooks Online

Perform bookkeeping clean-up with minimal oversight

Identify missing information and proactively follow up with clients

Assist with basic financial reporting

Administrative & Operations Support

Manage shared inboxes and client messages

Schedule appointments and manage follow-ups

Follow established workflows and improve them when appropriate

Maintain confidentiality and data security at all times

Required Qualifications

3–5+ years of experience in a tax, accounting, or bookkeeping firm

Demonstrated ability to work remotely and independently

Prior experience handling client communications without supervision

Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online

Comfortable calling the IRS and government agencies

Strong time management, organization, and follow-through skills

Reliable internet connection and dedicated remote workspace

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in tax resolution or case management

Prior remote work experience in a tax or accounting environment

Experience managing multiple client cases simultaneously

Familiarity with practice management or CRM systems
