Our client, A well-established community based social and human services nonprofit organization in Berkeley, CA, is looking to fulfill the need for full time temporary Marketing & Communications Manager. This assignment is expected to last about three to six months. Reporting will be hybrid based (three days in office), with on-site reporting to the downtown Berkeley office location.

The Marketing & Communications Manager will oversee all outward-facing communications, with a focus on conveying the agency’s impact and services to donors and elevating the organization’s visibility in the community. Developing polished, strategic materials that build awareness, drive engagement, and support revenue-generating programs. This role collaborates closely with Development staff and reports to the Chief Development Officer.
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute an annual communications strategy and content calendar to elevate the organization’s mission, highlight impact, engage key audiences (clients, donors, partners, community), and effectively market client-paid services
Oversee the creation, distribution, and ongoing maintenance of all print and digital communications, including social media content, newsletters, brochures, impact reports, and the organization’s website for clients, donors, and public audiences
Lead collaboration with staff and community partners to ensure message alignment across all channels and to maintain communications that reflect organizational values, brand integrity, and best practices
Direct the strategic use of communications technology, such as website platforms, email systems, digital marketing tools, and CRM software to support outreach and engagement across all stakeholder groups
Manage website content and administration, ensuring timely updates, consistent messaging, and effective storytelling. While coordinating with technical support teams to maintain functionality and optimize user experience.
Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase visibility and demand for client-paid services using SEO, social media, and content marketing. Track performance, analyze results, and recommend ongoing improvements.
Partner with the Chief Programs Officer and Chief Development Officer to stay informed on sales initiatives, monitor performance, and refine marketing approaches to meet business development goals for client-paid services. Including participating in regular sales and planning meetings
Support the organization’s media relations by cultivating relationships with media contacts, pitching stories, drafting media materials, and preparing staff for interviews
Participating in Public Policy & Advocacy Committee, helping develop effective messaging for advocacy efforts, and distribute communications across appropriate channels
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess at least three to five years of experience in nonprofit, mission-driven communications and marketing operations, including hands-on work with website content, social media, newsletters, media relations, and donor communications. Possess a strong track record in planning, creating, and evaluating the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, as well as developing content strategies that successfully elevate visibility and engagement. Highly collaborative and experienced in developing and implementing effective communications strategies. Possess exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, enabling them to convey messages clearly and effectively across various audiences and channels. The role also requires excellent organizational, time management, and documentation skills and practical experience in MS Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, WordPress, Constant Contact, MailChimp (or similar system), Google Workspace applications.
