Position Summary:

Harbor View Motel and Condos, on beautiful Beaver Island in northern Lake Michigan, is seeking a Manager (single applicant or a couple) for our eight two-bedroom condominiums/ six motel room property located close to the ferry dock in downtown St. James. Beaver Island is 58 square miles in area and the largest and only inhabited island in the Great Lakes Archipelago. The ferry is about a two-hour trip and runs multiple times during peak season. Air travel leaves from Charlevoix and flight time is approximately 20 minutes. Beaver island has two airports, a modern medical center, fire, police and EMS departments, marinas and ferry dock, museums, churches, grocery stores, various lodging options, restaurants and pubs, and gift shops. Much of Beaver Island's natural setting has been carefully maintained as a pristine vacation spot. The motel is open from May 1 – November 30.

Essential Job Duties and Tasks:

The Resident Manager is a critical component as the front-facing representative of the Harbor View Motels and Condos. As such they are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the property as well as the supervision of other property employees. A residence is provided on-site and available year-round for the Manager including paid utilities and internet.

Management:

Serves as primary point of contact for the day-to-day opera9ons of a 14-unit property

Hire, train, and supervise part-time staff

Master and use on-line reservation software and produce required monthly reports

Hire contractors for property maintenance and repairs

Managing reservations while the motel is closed (December 1 - April 15), in preparation for the next season’s visitors via telephone or email.

Serves as a strategic business advisor for the property by communicating expectations, determining eligibility, helping set goals and marketing timelines, and ensuring long-term relationship management for overall property stability and success.

Order needed supplies and submit reports, purchase receipts, guest payments and staff work hours to the accountant in a 9mely fashion.

Business Relations:

Respond to phone calls and texts from guests and poten9al guests during the hours of opera9on (Peak season June 15 – Labor Day, 8:00 am – 9:00 pm, off-season 9:00 am - 6:00 pm).

Greeting each guest, inspect rooms prior to guest arrivals and provide excep9onal guest rela9ons service.

Serve as the resident on-site manager of guest relations and experiences including, but not limited to, check in / check out and special needs.

Promote a “We Care” work environment

Ensure property rules are followed in all units and on the grounds.

Operations:

Maintain safe, clean, and attractive grounds

Perform cleaning duties for all units. Additional staff is provided during the peak season times.

Participate in Spring cleaning prior to season opening. (April 15 – May 1).

Maintain the pool, including but not limited to, vacuum and skim, check and record daily

chemical and water levels.

Notify owner and President of things that need to be repaired, upgraded and/or replaced in the

units. Replace broken items needed in units in accordance with Association Policy and owner’s approval.

Education / Experience / Specialized Knowledge and Competency Requirements:

Skilled in computer software such as MS Office.

Experience with the hospitality industry, sales, business development or customer service

preferred.

Experience with purchasing supplies and securing repair and maintenance contractors preferred.

Working Conditions / Physical Effort:

Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds and have the physical stamina to perform multiple

housekeeping duties, including a significant amount of walking.

Adaptable to living on a remote island in Lake Michigan.

Must be able to work weekends and holidays if needed.
