Sawyer - Forestry Technician

Small forestry & land management company based in Santa Fe is looking for additional experienced sawyers to add to the team.

Rio Forestry LLC offers forestry services to private and public land managers in New Mexico and Colorado. We are based out of Santa Fe where we work for about 6 months of the year, other job locations include Albuquerque, central Colorado, Northern New Mexico such as Taos, Jemez etc. Travel is a requirement of the job. On large jobs overtime is a requirement of the job. When staying out of town we either camp or stay in rental homes depending on the season.

We do:

-Thinning, felling, some pruning & slash management

-Hazard trees

-Wild fire risk mitigation - defensible space

-Burn scar remediation

-Tree pest

-Seeding and revegetation

-Erosion mitigation

-Light dirt work

Projects range in size from 2 - 120 acres.

Job Duties:

-Manual labor consisting of directional felling and bucking, carrying/hauling consistently 50 lb+, use of hand tools, working around forestry equipment (winches, chippers, trucks, excavators, grinders, skidsteer etc.)

-Use of personal protective equipment, adhering to job site safety standards

-Work in occasional stressful situations

Required Qualifications:

-Ability to get to job sites

-Ability to work in adverse weather and work conditions (steep arroyos/mountainous terrain, snow)

-Ability to work as a team

-Strong work ethic, safe, reliable

-Willingness to learn

-Sawyer applicants need professional chainsaw experience (S212 Class is a plus). Prefer Level II or B sawyer, willing to train the right I or A

Other useful skills:

-Ability to work with minimal supervision

-Strong mechanical knowledge

-Ability to operate equipment

-Knowledgable of local forestry practices (PJ, bosque, mixed conifer, noxious weeds, etc.)

Schedule: 40 hours/week. Monday - Thursday 10 hour days, occasional required OT depending on job.

Compensation: DOE

-$21-$25/hr - overtime opportunities

We are seeking individuals who enjoy working in the woods, care for the condition of our lands and want to grow within the company. $21+ DOE, pay increases with competency and reliability. Employees are responsible for: safety glasses, 7” leather boots, long sleeve shirts, hard hat. We provide chaps and tools.

The ideal candidate is a strong sawyer who can quickly jump into various forestry tasks including felling trees, has a strong mechanical understanding as we maintenance our own equipment and has a strong idea of forestry services and how they are implemented.
